One day, I wake up to a peach sky jabbed and tickled with thin, stringy, squiggly red lines that split and form branches or roots. My hands and feet feel heavy and my skin has a super soft and electric charge underneath. What is this painful throb pulling at me as though my kidney is being pulled out of me from hell? I feel this fever that makes me want to run, anywhere. I run and I come upon a city. I enter a library and it smells of coffee beans and pages that are desirable to just leaf through, not to read, but to fan the pages and gust that chalky and wooden scent just to take your mind off the traffic and loud voices outside.
I leave and visit another place that smells of roasted garlic and pizza, then another that is filled with various scents of perfumes and colognes. Then I walk into a bar and it has almost nobody in there but smells too strongly of cigarette butts and ammonia. I leave and enter a place with a big room. It is kind of dark with these harsh lights flickering on and off on one side, then the halls are crowded and the acoustics make it nearly unbearable to stand in for long. I then leave the city and go somewhere else. I get far away and wish to turn back. Did anyone see me or notice me going?
Am I just to walk out into the Mojave desert, and have the rushing sands pushing the dunes over me where I stand with only part of the top of my head exposed? I run back. Something then grips me from the side and I faint from horrible pain. It hurts so much that it feels like blood is in my mouth hot and heavy. I wake up once again, feeling that same energy, but dizzy and tender. I then look off and see that the city before me is not what it was last time I was there. There is this ominous silence and there is a ringing inside my ears making me feel submerged. I also notice the ground is warped and a metallic dust and burning rubber smell fills the air.
It takes me a while to stand up again. I feel tender and weak inside and out, yet an electrical charge-like energy and fever gives me a compulsion to go.
