It's probably way too early to say this, but I feel as if The Getaway might actually be my favourite RHCP album. I always feel like you've got to have lived with an album a couple of years before you can fairly rank it alongside a bands other work, but I haven't been this addicted to an album in years, by the Chili's or anyone else.

I rate it so low because while it's a great collection of songs I don't think it's a very good album. Not enough variety in the sound makes a bunch of wonderful songs run together and they lose their uniqueness.

1. Blood Sugar Sex Magik 2. Californication 3. Stadium Arcadium 4. The Getaway 5. By The Way 6. I'm With You 7. One Hot Minute 8. Freaky Styley 9. Uplift Mofo Party Plan 10. Mothers Milk 11. The Red Hot Chili Peppers
This is always hard to do hahaha. 5-8 could be flipped either way at any time as can 9-11. I agree with Zonks that BTW has a great selection of tracks yet as an album as a whole it could have been better. Especially with the knowledge we have to the B-Sides from those sessions. This is how I feel about IWY as well.
Im so so glad we got IBY but, if you swap out 3 or 4 tracks from IWY and replace them with songs like Long Progression for example the album would have had more solidarity and for me would be the stronger album in comparison to The Getaway. I really enjoy the track listing on IWY either way though. Having so many songs to choose from for the album wouldn't of helped their judgement I guess.

This *might* be somewhat controversial...
1. Blood Sugar Sex Magik (easily my favourite, everything stands up individually AND as a collective) 2. Stadium Arcadium (the good thing about a double album is there's more propensity to find something you like) 3. The Getaway (is it this high because I've perhaps exhausted it less? Maybe, but it's just awesome on the whole.) 4. I'm With You (my album of Summer 2012. Reminds me of finishing sixth form, summers in the pub and starting uni) 5. One Hot Minute (this has really grown on me over the years. I wasn't keen on it at the start, but I really appreciate it now.) 6. Freaky Styley (yummy funky punky over-exuberance, but there's a couple that perhaps fall short. Nevermind springs to mind.) 7. Mother's Milk (John's totally finding his feet, but there's a lot of good things here.) 8. Californication (I like just over half the songs on this album a lot. The first half is great, but most songs after Easily are a bit turgid.) 9. Uplift Mofo Party Plan (Don't get me wrong, I DO like this album quite a bit. It's just, a lot of the time, it's too...fast-paced.) 10. The Red Hot Chili Peppers (There's some really nice little songs, but there's some glaring production problems.) 11. By The Way (I like the songs By The Way, Throw Away Your Television and This Is The Place. Everything else is a melange of blandness.)

I think it's harder to resonate with an album that you didn't live through. I know I feel a stronger connection to albums that were released when I was already a fan than the ones already released that I ended up buying after getting into them.
