Yes, I forgot that Josh plays bass too! Also, the trumpet from Flea is very atmospheric

Do you guys think that Flea's trumpet playing and Josh on the bass might affect it's chances of being played live? I'm afraid so

Oh I forgot Josh played bass on that one. Would be nice if they could get a trumpet player for the tour like they used to. Or a guitar player, so that Josh would play bass and Flea would play the trumpet. Anthony did say he finds that every song from the album can be played live (in an interview on that Sirius radio channel I think), so fingers crossed they can figure it out.

Maybe they'll get Anthony to play bass on that one.

I would rather welcome somebody to play piano for the tour.

I think they are having a piano player - Nate Walcott seems to be the man who will be touring with them.
I'm pretty sure Flea will play bass on it for live shows. The normal set up.

Thats true, from memory Josh plays six string bass on it. Last time around they didn't have a dedicated piano player but as they didn't need one really. So just putting it out there that Nate looks like he will be with them for the tour in its entirety.
The Hunter could keep the original set up with Nate on keys. Will be interesting to see when it happens

Heres a discussion question;
What do you think are the best moments on The Getaway and why? Or what are your personal favourite moments i guess from The Getaway and why?

Goodbye Angels, the whole song, especially during the final solo. It actually sounds like RHCP from californication/btw/SA which imo is the best sound they had, most entertaining. Flea goes back to slapping his bass and Josh, who was very minimalist and quiet in I'm with you (not just mixed quietly, but actually less prominent) is easily audible, with an appropriate intensity of guitar with the appropriate effects. I don't understand why people are still pouncing on him saying he cant solo in reviews because he's improved DRASTICALLY.
That is my favorite song and favorite part from this album.
As for artistically, somewhere in Dreams of a samurai should do, possibly during the outro.

You might think I'm crazy but I think this is my favorite album of RHCP. I know people seem to always boast the old stuff, but these latest songs are amazing. It blew me away! I used to never say what my favorite album from them was. I could not decide. I did not have a favorite until I listened to this one. These songs have thumped and pinched a vein and nerve deep in my side that just makes me lose it! THIS ALBUM IS F*CKING KICK ASS! IT IS AWESOME AND THESE GUYS ARE WONDERFUL!!! It is powerful.

In saying that, we are approaching two months since the release, enough time for a lot of us to let it sink in and settle I guess. Where is it sitting for you guys now amongst the other 10 albums?
Been holding off on asking this as it needed a bit of time to settle in. I'd guess a lot of us have listened to it enough to have an idea on where you would rank it amongst the others. For me its sitting in my top 5;
1. Blood Sugar Sex Magik 2. Californication 3. Stadium Arcadium 4. By The Way 5. The Getaway
I'm not sure of the exact rankings of the other 6, but I can 100% say it's top 5 for me at the moment. Doubtful yet a slight possibility it could jump ahead of By The Way in the future.

1. BSSM 2. BTW 3. Cali 4. OHM 5. SA 6. TG
But rank 6 on here is no big deal as I love all of these 6 albums, followed by:
7. MM 8. TUMPF 9. IWY 10. RHCP

The realization of how consistently good this album is (stress on consistency) blew my mind over how highly I was rating The Getaway subconsciously. It's a bit tedious, but if you do a run down back in time before ranking it:
I'm With You has always been a bit hit and miss for me (and IBY made that even more complex).
SA has so much going on it is a bit of a different album every time. That is a not a bad thing, but it does make it less consistent. The open atmosphere allows for songs such as Make You Feel Better and If, but simple pleasant songs like that would pale on The Getaway where it's blow after blow I think.
By The Way has incredible highs and some of the lowest lows for me. Don't Forget Me is my favorite song, and Dosed and Venice Queen are classics. Can't Stop and BTW are great, but not representative of the album at all (barring TAYT perhaps). Songs like I Could Die For You, On Mercury, Minor Thing and Cabron are pleasant enough as style experiments, but much like Joe, they feel like little more than interesting detours to me. Also a bit of a sterile album, on songs such as I Could Die For You and those horrible drums on Zephyr Song (good song live though).
So, arriving at Californication to find a peer for The Getaway blew my mind. Right now I'd probably rank: 1. Blood Sugar Sex Magik 2. Californication/Freaky Styley 3. Freaky Styley/Californication 4. The Getaway 5. not sure at all
An album like By the Way has higher highs than The Getaway for me, but The Getaway seems to have a much stronger and carved out album feel compared to almost anything they've done and is consistently great. And I'm sure over time some tracks will grow to be huge classics in my head.

It took me quite a while to get into it at first, and my initial feelings towards the album were very lukewarm. But it stands up very well after repeated listens. It's the only RHCP album bar BSSM where I could put it on at track one and play it in its entirity without needing to skip a single track. By no means am I saying it's one of their best albums, but as you said, it is definately consistent.

Best surprise for me on the album was Encore. I've listened to the recording of their set at Bonnaroo 2012 dozens of times as it was the only time I've ever seen them, and the very ending of the Give It Away jam is the main bass/guitar riff from that song. It was such a great feeling to out of the blue hear a studio version of a live jam I had loved for years.
Only track I'm not fussed on is Goodbye Angels. The only song on the album that just feels a bit tired to me.

I think I would rate TG in my top 3 Chili's albums, I haven't been this obsessed with an album by anyone in years.

What is everyone's favourite song from TG after allowing it to settle and sink in? I know it would be something that changes all the time with most of us, but if you had to pick what would it be? In fact, pick the top 3. Might make it a little easier!
