Finally, stand-alone shows are here! The boys start their European leg of shows in Budapest, Hungary on the 1st and 2nd. Instead of making two different threads, I thought i'd just make this thread for both the two shows there. Hopefully things become more interesting now and we start to see the sets become a bit more creative. Im sure slowly we will get new additions to the batch of songs that have been on the past 22 festival setlists. Anyone off to either night? Hope those in Hungary have a kick ass time!

Apparently Ticonderoga has been rehearsed. Cant wait for all these longer sets and obscure song choices!

Awesome to see Samurai back! Hope it gets played a fair bit, great song to start an encore with imo. A heavier, rocking set. 16 songs is short though... was expecting 2 more (15 main + 3 encore). Will be interesting to see how they back it up tomorrow night.

Kind of nonsense if they stick with the 16 song festival length set in lieu of the 18 song sets they were doing on the IWY tour......given just how much music they have in their catalog it is crap if their plan is to do these shorter sets.
Stadium Arcadium tour was all 17 song sets unless festival. IWY was 18 songs.....just think how mic have more cool shit could be done with an 18 song set!
Yea though cool to see samurai back in there....first time all tour without the getaway getting played

You're right about The Getaway, I didn't realize that! Hope that they'll continue with 18 songs at least.

Pretty much spot on, Kenticus. I thought it would have been 18. See how it goes over the next month or two, will be massively disappointed if it sits at 16 songs for the rest of the tour though.
It seems like there are people complaining about the setlist too on reddit (surprise surprise - too many hits, predictable etc.). I disagree. Look at the songs from 5 to 9 on the set. Thats unpredictable to me. You would have a sense whilst being at a show that Go Robot would pop up in the main at some point but thats it. Samurai is also unpredictable. What will become predictable is the songs that are rotated on different nights/rested when the other song isn't played. Scar Tissue and Otherside was the main one I can think of from last tour and from memory another main one was Snow was swapped with another song when they rotated it. I just think its funny people are up in arms already about the song choices. The diverse song choices will come, we have a long way to go.
Just a thought though. Flea said the other day too something along the lines of "id rather my balls fall off than play the same songs over and over". We know Josh is very open minded to playing more of the catalogue and I'm not sure about Chad but i'd think he'd have some songs he'd like to play at gigs as well. Begs the question; is it Anthony who can be too conservative at times? We know he's in charge of deciding ultimately what goes on that setlist basically. Do you guys and girls think that the setlist AT TIMES can be too conservative because AK is too narrow minded or conservative with the choices? I think theres some merit to the idea but not sure. I have no issues with the setlists so far either, think they have been awesome for the festival gigs and last nights show was very solid too.

I have no issues with the setlists so far either, think they have been awesome for the festival gigs and last nights show was very solid too. They can be a bit scared at times I imagine to "lose" a crowd, but I think the way to do it is just ensure every 3rd song is a "hit" that most recognize and then you're good to do other deep shit. My view of the world: can't stop, Dani, scar, snow, under the bridge, Cali, by the way, and give it away should all be nightly locks. In what order I don't care, but do em every night. That's 8 songs. 5 getaway songs as that's the record they're supporting. Conservatively that gets us to 13 songs. At least 1 IWY song as they don't wanna ignore the first josh record. So that's 14 now. If you do an 18 song set, that leaves you with room for 4 deeper cuts that you can switch up, play a 6th getaway song, etc. plus I didn't include soul to squeeze, around the world, or otherside in the list and obviously you would want to rotate those in as fit. this way 8/18 songs are hits everyone knows - so almost half the show is popular bangers. Then you get to promote the new album as well AND please the hardcores by having them know that there's 3-4 songs a night that will rotate with sometimes older songs or lesser known album tracks. It's a good idea if I do say so myself and services all fans of all shapes and sizes optimally. So play two more songs and give yourself that room!

Mmm I dunno, maybe they could be scared of that.. I think thats a pretty good idea with the every third song is a hit concept. Would provide a good balance probably.
Those 8 songs probably should get played every night in all fairness, I agree. Your concept of the set seems very similar to how I feel it can be constructed. Ideally; from those i'd say Cant Stop, Dani Cali, UTB, Californication, BTW and GIA are locks bringing us to 6/18. I think Give It Away should be rested but thats for another discussion haha.
I feel once again, Scar will get put on rotation as will Snow which brings us to 8. Whether they are partnered with 1 or 2 other hits and they rotate them, I don't mind how they do it but it works for variety. So as you've stated thats 8 hits guaranteed, 9 if Dark Necessities is played.
Then your 4 songs from The Getaway brings us to 12. I am of the idea the Dark Necessities and Go Robot/Goodbye Angels should be a lock for every show + 2 of their choice.
Then they have 6 tracks of their choice. Thats 1/3rd of the set which they can play with and interest not only ourselves as hardcore fans but also themselves so they don't get bored of playing the same shit. Its a big chunk to have at their disposal to play any song from their discography that they want. Even throw in a "Josh's Choice" every now and then as they were doing last tour in the encore, I thought that was pretty cool. Should research and find what he chose on those nights actually.
So the set still has a lot of freedom for them to pick and choose, whilst still playing a good amount of well known songs for the casual or general attendee - which will be a large percentage of the crowd. You still get to please us more hardcore fans in the meanwhile with those 6-8 song choices. As I said though, the setlist isn't a problem yet for me, they have been great for the festivals. The thing which will annoy me to wits end, for a few reasons, is if it stays a 16-song set. Song-wise, I just want them to play what makes them happy and what keeps them in the upbeat and in the mood rather than getting bored and eventually going through the motions.

I think that they will not play it, as they did before (don't remember the show) with Cali.

The curious thing here is what do they close with? Would be cool if they mix and match openers....I insist that dark necessities into Dani would be another awesome way to stay!
In 2011 one of their first full shows with josh they opened with by the way and closed the main set with under the bridge so that's a possibility.....8 songs in and only 2 getaway songs means back half of sets gotta make it up with a few more of those popping up!
They'll play can't stop, just a matter of when, I for one like it as a middle of the set song after a new song or a quiet song just because of the fire it brings. Could close though....kudos on switching up order and possible that otherside and scar tissue rotate like they did SA tour. I'm all for some variation up in here!

Dark Necessities as an opener would be sweet!!
Can't Stop was a mid-set song throughout the last tour as well and I thought it fit well in the middle of the set. Otherside and Scar could potentially be that pairing for rotation again this tour. They have done it a few times already. Hoping Ticonderoga gets a run tonight to be honest, would like it to start getting played

Still 16. That's a shame. That's the thing - still only 16. They do some cool shit switching up order but still 16 songs instead of 18 which they did last tour! Drop in can't stop and scar tissue to that sat and you've got a stone cold killer of a set. It's a good first step mucking with order, now finish it and play at least as long as you did last tour!

I liked the set,but I am just thinking that maybe they will never play something else from other albums like OHM or BSSM, or even something else from Cali. And bring back 18 songs setlists!
