It isn't easy keeping up with all these fires around California, so I regret starting this thread. There is a large wildfire burning near Lompoc in Santa Barbara County. Last month, shortly after the Pilot fire which came close to being a threat to where I lived, a large fire dubbed the Bluecut fire occurred in the San Gabriel Mountains near Cajon Pass and Devore and almost burned down Wrightwood, but thankfully, that little town on the San Andreas was spared. It was a close call.

Fire!

I regret starting this thread because there is just so much going on. A huge firestorm is taking place up in Northern California's wine country. 40 people have died and thousands are evacuated. The destruction is absolutely stunning. One family suffered the worst possible fate one can imagine. A family of 4, Sara and Jon Shepherd and their two kids Kressa(17) and Kai(14) were trying to flee their home at around 1 AM in the morning of October 9th. The fire broke out in their area and the winds were strong and they had no warning. The flames came upon them and they split in two cars to escape. As they only got a mile down, the cars caught fire where they had to get out and flee on foot. They were outran by the flames where they caught on fire. A man who survived the fire by locking himself in a metal trailer with a hose filled with water found them. The younger brother Kai did not make it. The older sister was so severely burned to where she had to get her legs amputated from the knee and couldn't see. The mother Sara was also severely burned, but she and her daughter are expected to recover. The Dad, Jon was only burned 45% and of course is expected to recover. The family however remains in a sedated state, so it is not known if they know that Kai had perished in the flames. It was the worst possible thing to happen to somebody. One positive thing that happened amidst these fires was where a family was forced to leave their large dog and goats. They couldn't fit them all in the vehicle with them and were devastated. When they returned, a miracle greeted them. The dog and goats had all survived and the big dog had protected the 8 goats. Another touching story was when some people couldn't find their dog and had to evacuate immediately. They returned to find her okay and happy to see them.
